Dialectical Behavioral Skills Training Program (DBT)

Learn new coping techniques and develop effective strategies to manage symptoms of emotional dysregulation, depression, anxiety, social phobia, bipolar disorder, PTSD, or eating disorders.

Do I Need DBT?
Are you often overwhelmed by your emotions? Think back to the past few weeks, and ask yourself how often you’ve experienced the following:

  • Intense mood swings
  • Low impulse control
  • Social isolation or phobia
  • Difficulty saying no
  • A sense of inner turmoil or dissatisfaction
  • Recurring issues in your intimate, social or work relationships

When your thoughts and emotions are constantly racing or intense, they can negatively affect your friendships, romantic relationships and work life – leaving you feeling exhausted and distressed.

But there’s good news! Lasting Recovery offers a therapeutic skills training program that prepares you to make positive changes. By the end of the program, you’ll find that you have a much better handle on your emotions – and your life’s path as a result.

You are not alone in this journey! Countless other people have been right where you are, and have made incredible progress that empowered them to live happy, fulfilling and successful lives. And with Lasting Recovery’s expert team in your corner, you can rest assured that you’ll have all the resources and support you need to do just that.

“DBT skills have changed my life by helping me focus on the present moment and accepting reality for what it is, not what I want it to be.”

– Sarah, DBT program graduate

What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and How Can it Help Me?
DBT is a skills training program comprised of evidence-based therapeutic techniques, designed to help you effectively manage your emotions and interact with others in positive, healthy ways. Lighten your emotional burdens and free yourself to live your best life!

Through Lasting Recovery’s DBT program, you’ll learn to:

  • Manage difficult emotions
  • Communicate more effectively with your partner, friends, and coworkers
  • Cultivate happier relationships
  • Truly accept the things you can’t change
  • Channel your thoughts in a healthy and productive way
  • Stay calm and focused, even in frustrating situations
  • Reduce the intensity of painful or unwanted feelings

By the end of this six-week IOP program, you’ll feel more confident in your ability to stay even-keeled, navigate challenging emotional territory, and express yourself calmly and effectively. You’ll gain the skills you need to retake control of your feelings and the way they affect your own life and those around you – and feel prepared to handle whatever life throws your way.

“I feel emotionally regulated in a positive way.”

– Michael, DBT program graduate

How Lasting Recovery’s DBT Program Works
Over the course of six weeks, you’ll learn how to better read your own emotions, change problematic thinking and behavioral patterns, and assert your wants and needs in a productive and non-aggressive way. You’ll have the chance to both talk through your concerns privately with a counselor and practice your new skills in safe group settings.

The main components of this program are:

Mindfulness
This meditation-based technique helps you focus your attention on the present moment and experience reality as it is. Eventually, practicing mindfulness will help you feel more grounded and centered, less judgmental, and better able to live your life in the moment.

Emotion Regulation
Learn how to understand and identify your own emotions through mental, emotional, and physical cues – and then change your responses to them. You’ll be able to get ahead of the curve by addressing situations that prompt undesirable responses, making you less volatile and more resilient.

Interpersonal Effectiveness
Learn how to effectively ask for what you want and need, draw healthy boundaries without causing hurt, and handle conflicts. You’ll find that once you establish this new behavioral pattern, people around you will gain more respect for you – but most importantly, you’ll gain more respect for yourself. You may even find that your social life improves as it becomes easier to make new friends and foster your existing relationships.

Distress Tolerance
Everyone goes through hard times – the key is to learn how to weather the storms gracefully. As humans, we sometimes react poorly to difficult situations, which in turn only makes them worse. This portion of the course will teach you how to survive – and continue to thrive! – in times of pain or conflict. This helps alleviate your sense of suffering and enables you to show up more fully for your loved ones in times of need.

What to Expect
During this six-week program, we’ll meet four days a week for three hours per day, focusing on a different skill set each day. This intensive, part-time schedule provides an immersive and transformative therapy experience, while still accommodating your other work and personal obligations.
