“There may be additional health risks associated with the consumption of this product for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning on becoming pregnant.”
~Warning label on legal marijuana
Here we continue discussing marijuana use during pregnancy, “Fact versus Fiction”.
FICTION #4: “I’ve been told it is safe to use marijuana while pregnant or breast-feeding.”
FACT: Marijuana, like many foods and medications, should not be used during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. The THC can be passed to the fetus or infant.
FICTION #5: “I can safely treat my nausea during pregnancy with marijuana.”
FACT: Because in-utero THC exposure can be harmful, you should talk to your Doctor about safer alternatives.
FICTION #6: “Cannabinoids occur naturally in the body, so they must be safe.”
FACT: Endocannabinoids DO occur naturally – they improve communication between nerve cells. But the THC content in marijuana is high enough to disrupt natural reduction, and thereby pose a potential risk.
FICTION #7: “Marijuana has many health benefits for my baby.”
FACT: Any supposed or potential benefits are far outweighed by the possible risks, including impaired intellectual ability well into the teen years.
