Meet the Founders of Lasting Recovery

Since opening in 2004, Lasting Recovery, an Intensive Outpatient Treatment Center, has been providing healing and life changing recovery to those suffering with alcohol and drug addictions. Hundreds of people have found healing through individualized programs that address their unique physical, mental, spiritual and emotional needs.

Lasting Recovery is a family business for a family problem. Husband and wife team, Judy Saalinger and Arthur Farkas founded the treatment center as a way to help the community who helped them.

Judy, a former community college instructor, and licensed MFT, was in private practice in 1981 and involved in the recovery community until she and Arthur opened Lasting Recovery in 2004.  During those years she was President of the San Diego Chapter of California Women’s Commission on Alcohol and Drug Dependencies for 5 years and on the Board of EAPA, Employee Assistance Professionals Association. She was a regular talk show guest talking about the main focus of alcohol and drug addiction and the multiple issues of trauma and addiction experienced in the families.

In 2001 after completing her PhD. in Communication, based on the commonalities of her own life and her client’s challenges and, she took her dissertation based on the processes used with her clients, Fearless Change – Embrace the Choice to Re-Invent your Life, and self-published a book and workbook, then trained Alcohol and Drug Counselors throughout California. She was a guest on multiple national radio programs on the topic of women, addiction, trauma and making successful and fearless life changes. She offered workshops and trainings for many San Diego and Orange County addiction treatment programs and women’s recovery homes.

Co-Founder, Arthur Farkas Ph.D., a clinical psychologist who had worked for many years with Navy Personnel and Research, then on research of the hazards of smoking and benefits of smoking cessation, and has over 40 published articles in top journals including JAMA, National Cancer Institute, American Journal Public Health, Alcohol & Substance Abuse in Special Populations. Arthur was on the board and program director for local men’s recovery home, when he and Judy decided to start an outpatient alcohol and drug treatment program.  In 2004 they brought together their combined skills, experience and passion for addiction recovery and psychological wellness and opened Lasting Recovery outpatient treatment program.

For the past 15 years, they have worked together to build the foundation for their client’s lasting recovery. Together they have accumulated over 82 years of living a sober life.
