What Is Partial Hospitalization? The Addiction Treatment You Need

Is your life chaotic and unmanageable because of substance use or a mental disorder? Do you need more help than traditional outpatient programs, but are hesitant about checking into residential treatment? Or, have you recently completed an inpatient program and feel you still need ongoing support?

If you answered “YES” to any of these questions, Lasting Recovery’s Partial Hospitalization Program might be right for you.

What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program?

A Partial Hospitalization Program is an alternative non-residential treatment program for behavioral health or Substance Use Disorder. Also known as day treatment, a PHP provides intensive services 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. At the end of the day, you are in your own home and bed, rather than in an inpatient facility.

The goal of a PHP is to equip you with the tools you need to effectively manage triggers that might threaten your sobriety and mental health. It also gives you structure and support until you are stronger in recovery.

Why Choose a PHP?

Partial hospitalization might be appropriate if you:

  • Are medically stable.
  • Are not at risk of harming others or yourself.
  • Are having trouble functioning at work, socially, or in school.
  • Have a strong personal support system.
  • Struggle with co-occurring mental and addictive disorders.

PHPs are Affordable

Although insurance carriers are required by law to provide coverage for SUD, approval is still needed to receive some services. Insurance companies are often more likely to approve a PHP over far more expensive residential treatment. Lasting Recovery is an in-network provider for approximately two dozen insurance plans.

Transitioning Back to Society

A Partial Hospitalization Program teaches you healthy coping strategies so you can respond appropriately to stresses and triggers. Best of all, you get to put what you learn into practice in your daily life, as you are learning it. The support you receive during the PHP helps you safely progress in recovery.

What To Expect from a PHP

Each individual’s recovery program is unique, but will typically include the following:

  • A highly structured daily schedule
  • Individual and group therapy
  • Dual diagnosis treatment for any co-existing disorders
  • Drug testing
  • Where appropriate, referral for anti-addiction medications

The Difference Between Lasting Recovery’s Partial Hospitalization and Other Outpatient Rehabs

Did you know that most people struggling with alcohol or drug addiction also have a diagnosable mental illness such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression?

Unlike most outpatient rehabs, Lasting Recovery’s PHP also includes a strong mental health component. In fact, half of the treatment time is used to address co-occurring disorders and other emotional and mental issues involving substance abuse. This treatment includes group therapy sessions with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or DBT Skills. The support of others going through similar challenges helps counter the loneliness and isolation that so often accompanies severe addiction.

What Partial Hospitalization Does for YOU

The PHP program offered by Lasting Recovery gives you the increased levels of help and support you need while you heal from your acute Substance Use Disorder. Best of all, partial hospitalization does this without separating you from your family for weeks or even months. Every night, you go home with new information, tools, and skills that you can use to support your long-term sobriety.

There are even weekly family sessions that help your loved ones better understand your illness and how they should — and shouldn’t — try to support you.

And when you have made sufficient progress, you will transfer to Lasting Recovery’s Intensive Outpatient Program, a lower level of care that continues the services you need.

A Safe Return to Sobriety

The Partial Hospitalization Program at Lasting Recovery is offered with special care to adhere to all recommended COVID-19 protocols. Our PHP is part of our virtual treatment strategy, where we provide telemedicine addiction rehab over a secure Internet connection, allowing you to receive the services you need from the safety, privacy, and convenience of your own home.
